What is Sports and Remedial Massage?

Sports Massage is a deeper form of soft tissue massage performed before, during, and after athletic activities. Whether you cycle, run, climb, row or lift weights, regular massage can prepare you for peak performance, reduce fatigue, promote flexibility and prevent injuries. Remedial massage generally use same techniques as Sports Massage and are used to treat a wide variety of muscular conditions with the aim of getting to the source of the problem.

About Rie

Rie trained at the London School of Sports Massage (LSSM), founded in 1989, it was the first school to provide specialist training in Sport & Remedial Massage. She is a full member of the Institute of Sport and Remedial Massage (ISRM) and registered with the Complementary & Natural Healthcare Council (CNHC).

Before entering into the world of sports and remedial massage, Rie was a London based business correspondent for a foreign national newspaper for 13 years. Rie is interested in sports and fitness, and in particular, has been a very keen rock climber for a number of years. Although life in journalism was interesting and exciting, she decided to choose a career which is closer to her interest in sports and fitness.

In sports massage treatments, methods such as friction and deep tissue massage are commonly utilised. Trained at the LSSM, which takes a progressive approach, Rie extensively utilises various modern methods such as soft tissue release, connective tissue manipulation, and muscle energy technique and combines them with more traditional methods.

As well as being trained to treat members of the public who are physically active including marathon runners and triathletes, Rie has a particularly good understanding of the needs of rock climbers and has worked with climbers of all levels including professional route/problem setters. During her training, Rie also has worked with rowers who compete at  a very high level. Since qualifying, Rie has been treating professional rugby players regularly and has done events work including the London Marathon.
